Let me introduce myself. I started with developing vb applications, played around with vc++ a bit. After that I have had a long career developing Java applications. Recently though, I have been developiing c# applications. As much as you seem to hate eclipse, let me tell you there is no way VS(or even any other java IDE) can match eclipse. Eclipse boasts of millions of plugins an libraries to assist your development. There is no denial of the fact that VS has incomparable dragndrop capability but thats about it.From your comments, I can see you have spent considerable amount of time with VS, but its only matter of time before you start appreciating eclipse. I can pile up innumerable things which make VS annoyable for me. And btw, I have worked on other ide's as well(jdeveloper, netbeans etc).
As far as Java vs C#(a successor of VJ++?) is concerned, I can only say platform independence is one of the gazzilion why the kid would always envy the father.All your comments talk only about syntactical nuances which any developer can face while switching languages/platforms/ide's.
So, in short I will wait for a follow up after you have spent a considerable amount of development time on it.Good luck coding!

I have no intentions of doing any Java development, ever, unless it's for Android.

And I think Eclipse is the only IDE that currently has an Android plugin.

Interesting write-up! If you're looking for a better IDE experience than Eclipse you should try InelliJ IDEA. I used that for years personally, and when my last job tried switching to Eclipse, I fought tooth and nail to keep IDEA, because after just one day with Eclipse I was going crazy.

Also -- if you try IDEA and like it, the same company makes ReSharper - a VisualStudio add-in that add a lot of the nice UI features and shortcuts that IDEA has.
